Ed Hirs Zero Carbon Cycle, Co-Founder
Ed Hirs is an energy markets economist, and a Co-Founder of Zero Carbon Cycle LLC, a sustainable fuels company. Ed forecast the Saudi-led price war against the U.S. shale plays in 2012, and, in 2013, the eventual collapse of the Texas grid due to fundamental flaws in the market design. His career spans major oil companies, independents, independent power producers, and DOE’s Office of Conservation and Solar Energy. He is an Energy Fellow at the University of Houston where he teaches energy economics. He founded and co-chairs an annual energy conference at Yale University.
Ed received his BA with honors and Distinction in Economics, MA in Economics, and MBA from Yale University. He holds the CFA designation. The Briar Club

Jesse Thompson serves as senior business economist at the Houston Branch of the Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas. Thompson, who joined the Bank in 2010, performs research and analysis on issues affecting the Houston and Gulf Coast economy. In particular, he studies issues surrounding area hydrocarbon industries. He also collects information for the Dallas Fed’s Beige Book summary of current economic conditions. He is author of the monthly Energy Indicators, the Houston Economic Indicators, and contributes to the quarterly publication Southwest Economy. Thompson earned an MA in economics, with emphasis on empirical microeconomics, and BA in philosophy and economics from the University of Houston.
